MWB-powered Initiatives

Fast Forward Mississippi is an MWB-powered initiative that is working to develop and enact policies that talent attention and retention in Mississippi, an issue commonly referred to as “brain drain.” The initiative has focused on crafting legislation, working in an advisory capacity to several relevant committees and oversight boards dedicated to boosting Mississippi’s entrepreneur ecosystem.

Kids Code Mississippi is an initiative which promotes computer science education among youth. Our advocacy work led to the launch of Mississippi’s K-12 computer science education pilot, CS4MS, and has continued with hackathons for underserved communities, work spearheading the Congressional App Challenge in Mississippi, review of Mississippi Computer Science standards, and programs to raise awareness of CS education opportunities among Mississippi elected officials.

Spark-O-Matic is a program powered by MWB which helps disadvantaged young people in Jackson, Mississippi, find their voice and play a smart, active role in our increasingly digitized world through collaborative digital projects. The program addresses aspects of video production, podcasting, animation, and robotics. Through Spark-o-Matic, a group of local high school students formed their own production company and have produced short films for local charities and non-profit organizations (one of which was screened in a statewide film festival).

TEDxJackson was the first TEDx conference held in Mississippi, launched and co-organized by MWB talent. First held in 2014, we recruited Kermit the Frog to give the first ever full-length TEDx talk by a Muppet, a talk which has now been viewed on YouTube more than 300,000 times. We have continued our involvement on the organizing committee, helping plan and produce three subsequent TEDx events.
